Christmas in Bratislava
Discover the festive charm of Christmas in Bratislava, where glowing markets, seasonal treats and winter traditions fill the city with holiday cheer.
Bratislava Christmas markets
Bratislava transforms into a festive winter atmosphere each year as its Christmas Markets return to Hlavné and Hviezdoslavovo Square. The official opening takes place on 28 November at 18:00, when both Christmas trees are lit and the Advent season begins. The markets are open daily from 10:00 to 22:00, from November 27, 2025, to January 6, 2026, except December 24 and 25.
Quiet corners and festive traditions
A covered, wheelchair – accessible relaxation zone will be available on the Main Square, offering families, seniors, and anyone needing a peaceful corner a comfortable place to rest. On Primatial Square, the Christmas Forest returns with 40 trees decorated by pupils from elementary, art, and special schools. From 15 December, these trees will be distributed to families and charitable organisations.
Christmas Fleet – a seasonal attraction
The beloved Christmas tram is expanded this year with an entire Christmas fleet. This year, two trams, a trolleybus, and a bus will appear on the streets in festive decorations. Rides on the Christmas tram during standard runs will be free of charge, while the trolleybus and bus operate under the regular fare system.
The Christmas fleet operates from December 5, 2025, to January 6, 2026, except on Christmas Eve. The main tram follows a loop through the city centre, beginning at Jesenského and serving stops such as Centrum, Kapucínska, Chatam Sófer, Vodná veža, and Most SNP.
Design that brings stories to life
The Musical Christmas Tram features artwork by illustrator Saki Matsumoto, inspired by well-known Christmas songs. Inside, visitors are greeted by the scent of a real tree, a Children’s Christmas Gallery with drawings by the children of DPB employees, and a space where passengers can add their own holiday wishes.
