Slovak National Gallery
- Galleries
The Slovak National Gallery — housed in historic palaces in Bratislava’s Old Town — offers a beautiful collection of Slovak and European art from medieval icons to contemporary works.
A Landmark of Slovak Art Reborn
After a decade-long reconstruction, the Slovak National Gallery has reopened as one of Bratislava’s most remarkable cultural spaces. Set on the Danube waterfront, the gallery unites a historic barracks building with a bold modern extension designed by architect Vladimír Dedeček — creating an atmosphere where past and present meet in one inspiring complex.
A Fusion of History and Contemporary Design
The core of the gallery is the Water Barracks (Vodné kasárne), a Baroque-era building redesigned to host bright, elegant exhibition halls.
Its counterpart is Dedeček’s iconic Premostenie, a modernist structure spanning over the courtyard, now fully restored and reopened to the public. Together they form an architecturally unique ensemble unmatched anywhere in Slovakia.
The newest addition is a state-of-the-art depository, ensuring world-class standards for the preservation of the national art collection.
