A Historic Green Haven by the Danube
Janko Kráľ Park is a peaceful, tree-lined oasis located on the Petržalka side of the Danube — just across from the Old Town. Founded in the late 18th century, it is considered one of the oldest public parks in Central Europe, offering visitors shady alleys, open lawns and a calm, timeless atmosphere.
A Park Full of Stories
Created during the Baroque era and later redesigned in romantic style, the park still preserves its original star-shaped path layout. Its towering plane trees — many over 200 years old — form dramatic natural corridors that feel like a green cathedral.
In the centre stands the Gothic-style gazebo, built from part of the former Franciscan Church tower. It gives the park a fairy-tale touch and is a favourite spot for photos, picnics and small cultural events.

Our Tip
If you are visiting from May to September, bring a picnic blanket and head for the central alleys at golden hour. As the light filters through the huge plane trees, the park becomes one of the most magical places in the city.
Every year, the park becomes the stage for “The Battle of Bratislava”, a popular historical reenactment bringing medieval combat and living history to life beneath its ancient trees.
