Freedom Square – water playground
- Parks & Gardens
Freedom Square in Bratislava is a lively urban lawn with the city’s largest fountain in its centre — a place where you can cool off, relax on the grass or enjoy a café with a view.
Where Water Meets Leisure
Freedom Square (Námestie Slobody) is a spacious green-public plaza in Bratislava’s Old Town, centred around a striking fountain and surrounded by lawns and cafés — a place to stroll, cool off and sit back while the city moves around you.
A Splashy Highlight
At the heart of the square lies the iconic Družba Fountain, measuring about 45 m in diameter — one of the largest fountains in Slovakia. Since its recent restoration, the fountain has once again become a children’s water playground, with chemically treated water similar to a pool, where visitors are welcome to dip in at their own risk (dogs are not allowed).
Relaxed Atmosphere & Amenities
Surrounding the fountain are green lawns inviting you to lie down, cafés and restaurants offering views of the water feature, and plenty of space for an unhurried moment in the city. In warmer months the square becomes a favourite for families, friends and visitors looking for a cool break in central Bratislava.
Our Tip
Visit just before sunset — sit on the grass, let the light soften, listen to the fountain’s spray and enjoy the backdrop of the city. Don’t forget your towel if you plan to step into the fountain.
