A peaceful historic cemetery filled with art, memory and quiet greenery. The Cemetery by the Goat Gate is one of Bratislava’s oldest and most atmospheric burial grounds — a quiet, tree-shaded place with artistic tombstones, historic stories.
A Place of Memory and History
Founded in the late 18th century, the cemetery originally served the Evangelical community of Pressburg. Over time, it became a significant resting place for notable citizens, artists, scholars and merchants.
Many of the gravestones and monuments reflect the craftsmanship and artistic styles of the 19th and early 20th centuries — from classical stone markers to neo-Gothic inscriptions and sculptural details.
Set on a gentle slope below the Palisády district, the cemetery feels like a secluded garden tucked into the Old Town’s residential quarter.
