What is Bratislava Tourist Board?

Bratislava Tourist Board is the official entity to develop and promote all types of tourism and support their presentation; create a platform for cooperation of private and public sectors in the area of tourism; and manage, initiate and coordinate the development of tourism in Bratislava. It fulfills the role of the Convention Bureau and provides information services for visitors to the city through its tourist information center in the historic city center.

Main activities of the organization

Destination marketing

is an important tool for making Bratislava more visible among potential visitors to our capital city in order to ensure an effective increase in visits, overnight stays and the use of tourism products and services. And thus ensure a better economy for the city. Bratislava Tourist Board is actively engaged in all forms of marketing activities.

The Tourist Information Center

is the place where most tourists in the capital city visit. In this first-contact office, you will find, in addition to regularly updated thematic maps and brochures with trip tips, also helpful staff who will be happy to help you plan your time in Bratislava exactly according to your wishes.

MICE or congress tourism

is an important part and a significant source of tourism income for every major destination. Bratislava also offers interesting opportunities for organizing congresses and other events. Bratislava Tourist Board presents this offer and cooperates with agencies that organize MICE events around the world.

Destination tourism management

in Bratislava provides activities that connect entities operating in tourism. This includes, for example, networking and promoting common interests of members of the organization, organizing events for residents and visitors, processing and submitting tourism and infrastructure development projects and their implementation. At the same time, we are preparing a long-term and short-term tourism development concept and strategy.

Other activities of the organization

  • supports the activities of its members in creating and implementing tourism development concepts within its territory,

  • creates and implements marketing and tourism promotion for its members and the municipality both domestically and abroad,

  • represents and advocates the common interests of its members,

  • cooperates with municipal authorities in developing its territory, including preparing and implementing development programs with emphasis on sustainable tourism,

  • supports cultural, social, and sports life as well as the preservation of natural and cultural heritage,

  • collaborates in organizing events for residents and visitors,

  • provides advisory and consulting services to its members,

  • prepares and submits tourism development projects and ensures their implementation,

  • promotes sustainable tourism to protect and preserve all components of the environment and respect the lifestyle and property rights of local residents,

  • develops and implements long-term and short-term tourism development concepts and strategies based on its own analyses, the tourism strategy of Bratislava, regional and national tourism concepts,

  • in cooperation with member municipalities and other members of the regional organization, prepares and implements the annual activity plan, monitoring reports, and annual reports on tourism development,

  • initiates and/or ensures the creation, marketing, management, and presentation of tourism products and services within its territory,

  • prepares the annual activity plan approved by the general assembly,

  • updates and manages the integrated information system within its jurisdiction,

  • maps tourism products, activities, and destination values in cooperation with municipalities, members, and experts,

  • compiles and publishes annual reports on its website,

  • ensures the operation of the tourist information center,

  • submits to the ministry, by March 15 each year, documentation proving the amount of membership contributions from the previous budget year,

  • conducts tourism market research including needs analysis, demand development, supply analysis, and competition analysis,

  • creates, produces, and distributes printed, audiovisual, and multimedia promotional materials for Bratislava as a tourism destination,

  • builds a positive image of Bratislava as a tourism destination,

  • coordinates domestic and international activities to connect Bratislava’s tourism offer with foreign demand,

  • ensures the participation of Bratislava at international tourism fairs and exhibitions,

  • implements and develops the tourism information system with a focus on digital solutions,

  • creates a database of domestic and foreign tourism-related entities operating in Bratislava,

  • provides up-to-date information to mass media, organizes press conferences at home and abroad, and arranges familiarization trips for foreign journalists and relevant partners,

  • cooperates with business and non-business tourism entities in Bratislava, municipal authorities, ministries, state administration, associations, schools, museums, galleries, cultural institutions, research and consulting organizations at home and abroad,

  • collaborates with the Ministry of Transport and its foreign representations, as well as economic departments of Slovak embassies when presenting the city and developing partnerships,

  • ensures or carries out international cooperation and fulfills commitments arising from membership in international tourism organizations, and cooperates internationally with tourism bodies even where it is not a member (e.g., partner DMOs).

Founding of the organization

On December 20, 2011, a general meeting was held to establish the destination management organization of the capital of the Slovak Republic, Bratislava, called “Bratislavská organizácia cestovného ruchu” (SK)/ “Bratislava Tourist Board” (EN), abbreviated as BTB. The organization was officially registered with the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Regional Development of the Slovak Republic on December 28, 2011.

The organization is a legal entity established pursuant to Section 13 et seq. of Act No. 91/2010 Coll. on the support of tourism, as amended by later regulations, to support and create conditions for the development of tourism with the aim of building Bratislava into a significant and internationally renowned destination in the Czech Republic.
